61-year-old, Dianne from Macquarie Hills in NSW had been working in managerial positions in warehouses for several years when she found herself looking for a career change.
Dianne had injured her knee and found out she needed two total knee replacements and that she also had arthritis.
While she was recovering, she decided she wanted to look at a new career path that was a little easier on her body.
She discovered changing careers later in life with health barriers to be more challenging than expected and was connected with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services for additional support.
Job Coach Sarah, worked with Dianne to understand her goals, which included letting go of her leadership responsibilities and working in a more independent role.
Dianne felt her knees were being managed well and she was experiencing less pain, so she also wanted to remain in a role which kept her active and social.
Together they worked towards a domestic cleaning role within the NDIS. Sarah supported Dianne to obtain her NDIS and working with children checks.
Sarah also helped Dianne to apply for suitable roles and encouraged her throughout the process.
“Sarah has been fantastic to work with and I can always rely on her to help me out with any applications or computer related tasks. I not only have a Job Coach, but I have a friend who supports me,” said Dianne.
Dianne has been thriving since starting in her new career, and new role.
“We have received some fantastic feedback about Dianne’s work and her rapport with the clients that she cleans for,” said Sarah.
“She is enjoying her new job and has a new found independence and purpose.”
