Clarkson-based, Kylie, 51, has been unemployed for the last seven years. Her last role as a Nursery Assistant, where she operated a seeding machine, had been very physical.
Kylie lives with anxiety and a mental health condition which caused low confidence. She was actively participating with Disability Employment Services, however, she was not feeling confident in her ability to obtain employment.
When Kylie connected with atWork Australia she was very anxious and did not have the confidence to even think about working. She met Job Coach Pratik who talked to her about her personal and career goals, suitable employment opportunities and how her future would look if she secured employment. The weekly job search activities with her Job Coach assisted Kylie a lot and it helped to build her confidence. Kylie’s positive energy and motivation at her weekly job searches made all the difference.
Kylie always believed that if not now, she would find it challenging to be able to work again in the future after a long time of unemployment. Her last job was a very physical one and this time Kylie wanted to stay away from that kind of work and focus on an office-based role. Even if it was challenging at times, Kylie kept looking for office or call-centre based roles independently and with her Job Coach.
Kylie was very surprised that she was able to secure a role as Customer Service Specialist. She found this role on her own and is very proud of herself. It has been seven years since she last worked; she was overwhelmingly happy that someone has put faith in her again to give her this employment opportunity.
Kylie says: “I have surprised myself by getting back into the workforce. I already noticed that people at work are looking up to me and want to learn from me. I am very happy that I have proven myself wrong about getting a job and I am so proud.” Kylie adds: “atWork Australia has been with me on this journey as a support system.”
Kylie’s Job Coach, Pratik, says: “I am very proud of what Kylie has achieved and how far she has come.” Pratik also added that Kylie was actively engaging with job searching activities he provided her with and gave everything a go.
