Dean (54) has been living with depression, diabetes and experiences chronic pain. These factors made it difficult for Dean to work full time as a Chef.
Dean reached out to atWork Australia in Pinjarra where he was connected to Job Coach Leith who helped Dean by offering assistance with food, clothing and emergency accommodation especially during the winter months.
Dean had a review with his Doctor for his medical conditions and identified that there were side effects and the medications were not helping him. His medicines were reviewed and were successful in helping him manage his conditions.
Dean had applied for various types of roles in areas such as Mining and Aged Care and was unsuccessful. Job Coach Leith recommended to Dean that he should apply for a job that is more suitable for him.
Leith recognised a position that came through from an Employer Engagement Consultant as a Bakery Assistant for Pinjarra Bakery. The Bakery were focused on hiring local people and Dean was more than willing to give this opportunity a go.
Dean is enjoying his new role and getting used to working again. His new role is also allowing him to gain his fitness and Dean can spend more time with his family.
Dean has progressed from a casual to a full-time employee in his new role and learning many things about baking. Dean has had training in every section of the kitchen now and feels part of the crew.
Leith says: “Dean is a dedicated person in whatever he does. He has shone in his new employment; proven he can be reliable and able to do more than he ever expected. Dean couldn’t be happier that he has his life back and is supporting his family, when before he just could not see the future. A life changing time for Dean.”
