Darryleenne came to atWork Australia at a challenging period of her life. She had been out of work for several months; her health conditions were impacting her ability to find suitable work and it was affecting her mental health.
Darryleenne lives with a psychological condition that impacts her mood, motivation, and concentration. To make an already difficult situation more challenging, Darryleenne also lives with chronic pain, and she has a police record. Despite these barriers, Darryleenne knew she needed to return to work. She was finding it difficult to find suitable employment on her own, so she engaged with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team at the Sydney office to get tailored support on her employment journey.
When Darryleenne came to atWork Australia she was connected with her Job Coach, Jenny. Darryleenne found the process quite challenging for the first few appointments, as she tried to manage her emotions and anxiety. Jenny assured Darryleenne that atWork Australia were here to support her and make this experience a positive one. Jenny took her time to listen and get to know Darryleenne, while providing non-judgmental support. Overtime, Jenny began to earn Darryleenne’s trust, and the pair developed a great relationship.
Jenny provided professional guidance, encouraging her to undertake training in hospitality, gaining her Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Responsible Service of Gambling (RSG) licence. After completing the training, Darryleenne was feeling confident and eager to return to work.
Darryleenne and Jenny began searching for suitable opportunities. Jenny came across a position with AH & S Hospitality, after discussing the role with Darryleenne, they decided it would be a great opportunity and together they prepared an application.
Darryleenne was successful in securing an interview. In preparation for the interview, atWork Australia provided funding to purchase new work clothes and Jenny conducted mock interviews to develop Darryleenne’s confidence to speak about her skills and abilities in the interview. Darryleenne was delighted when she heard that she was successful in securing a position as a Room Attendant.
Darryleene has been grateful for the support she has received from atWork Australia, she now feels like she is not alone and she is being supported by people she trusts. Darryleenne’s Job Coach, Jenny, said, “I am so pleased to see Darryleenne in a position she enjoys, she can now support herself and her family. She has shown incredible growth since coming to atWork Australia and she has a more positive attitude.”
“Thank you, atWork Australia. I really enjoy my new job,” said Darryleenne, atWork Australia Client.
