Daniel has been unemployed for the last six years, however, this has not been by choice. Daniel has always been positive, determined, and eager to work. Unfortunately, Daniel has experienced significant medical barriers over the last few years; this included an aneurysm on his brain, which caused hearing loss, anxiety, and depression. Daniel had to undergo major brain surgery to have the aneurysm removed.
Despite the incredibly challenging journey Daniel has been on, he is still determined and eager to return to work. Daniel was consistently handing out his resume and talking to employers about potential opportunities. Despite his best efforts, he has had no success. Instead of letting the rejection deter him, he took a brave step and reached out to atWork Australia’s Noarlunga office to get support from the Disability Employment Service team.
When Daniel met his Job Coach, Katrina, he explained that he had been contacting employers, but just could not secure a position. He knew if an employer gave him a work trial, they would see his determination, work ethic and they would offer him a job. Katrina commended Daniel’s efforts and assured him his hard work will eventually pay off. Katrina outlined how atWork Australia could support him on his employment journey and advised him that he now had a team of people working to find him employment.
Soon enough, Katrina put Daniel forward for a job trial. Just like Daniel said, the employer was blown away by his motivation and desire to perform the role to the best of his ability. The employer was so impressed, they immediately offered him the job. Daniel was delighted to secure a new position as a Production Worker.
In preparation to commence work, atWork Australia supported Daniel to purchase new work clothes. Additionally, Daniel does not have his driver’s licence and he either walks or takes public transport to get where he needs to go. Everyday Daniel would take a forty-five-minute walk to and from work. So, to make the commute easier, atWork Australia purchased a bike for Daniel, which now allows him to get to work in twenty minutes.
Daniel has been incredibly grateful for the support he has received from atWork Australia. Daniel’s Job Coach, Katrina, said, “Daniel’s confidence continues to grow, seeing his smile is so rewarding. He is very happy with his new employment and is now working towards achieving his personal goals.”
“Thank you to Katrina and atWork Australia for giving me the opportunity to move forward. When I arrived, I had nothing and now I have a job,” said Daniel.
