Disability Employment Services client, Damien, lives with anxiety.
He came into the atWork Australia office in Ravenswood, Tasmania, with the goal of becoming self-employed.
He shared with his Job Coach, Kiri-Lee, that he had experience working as a Disability Support Worker. He wanted to become self-employed within the same industry.
Kiri-Lee suggested Damien participate in the Self-Employment Assistance program to learn the ropes of self-employment.
Damien was keen to participate, so Kiri-Lee organised a laptop for Damien to complete the program.
After a little while within the program, Damien realised it would be lengthy and expensive process to become self-employed.
“Damien was very grateful that atWork Australia supported his goals,” said Kiri-Lee.
“Even though he discovered that self-employment may not suit him in the end, he was able to learn more about it to come to that conclusion.”
Damien was still passionate about support work, so with Kiri-Lee’s and atWork Australia’s assistance, he was introduced to a potential employer.
Damien aced the interview and is now working up to 30 hours a week as a disability support worker.
“atWork Australia has helped me gain the motivation and confidence to get back into employment,” said Damien.
