Dallas stands next to two women. His quote reads “Thank you to Sarah and Lavinia. For helping get me back into the workforce, while assisting me in rebuilding and boosting my self confidence in work and outside of work.”

When Disability Employment Services client, Dallas (pictured far right), stepped into atWork Australia’s Doonside, NSW office, he was facing multiple barriers to employment. However, the challenges he faced were no match for his fierce determination.

Dallas is a NDIS participant and decided to connect with atWork Australia for additional support to find employment he enjoyed.

Despite his enthusiasm and readiness to work, his previous employment experiences often ended abruptly.

When he felt his mental health was improving, he decided to stop his mental health interventions. This left him feeling lost and discouraged, as both his health and job prospects were impacted.

Dallas was being supported by Job Coach, Sarah. She focused on getting to know Dallas and understanding how atWork Australia could best support him.

Finding the right job for Dallas meant fostering a supportive environment that prioritised his mental health. Sarah engaged in open and honest conversations with Dallas, helping him recognise the importance of maintaining his mental health interventions alongside his employment.

Together, Sarah and Dallas established a plan that included regular check-ins, mental health strategies, and ongoing support tailored to Dallas’ needs.

Additionally, Dallas was referred to atWork Australia’s internal Wellness Services to gain support from a qualified Wellness Advisor.

Leveraging off atWork Australia’s broad network of employer partners, the team identified a position that aligned with Dallas’ skills and interests.

“We were thrilled when we found a perfect Warehousing role, where Dallas’ could contribute in a supportive atmosphere. The position not only matched his skills, but also provided the nurturing environment he needed,” said Job Coach, Sarah.

For over a year now, Dallas has successfully sustained his employment. His contributions have been invaluable, as he brings a unique perspective and a strong work ethic that enhances the team’s daily operations.

“Dallas is known for his positive attitude and willingness to help others, making him a cherished member of the team,” said In-Work Support Coach, Lavinia.

“Our team continues to provide regular support, checking in with him to ensure he has the tools and strategies to maintain his motivation and healthy habits. We focus on reinforcing the importance of self-care, encouraging Dallas to prioritise his mental health just as much as his job responsibilities,” Lavinia adds.

“Thank you to Sarah and Lavinia. For helping get me back into the workforce, while assisting me in rebuilding and boosting my self confidence in work and outside of work,” said Dallas.
