Corey is a bright and bubbly young man, with a positive attitude. Corey lives with an intellectual disability. He came to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services office in Penrith, NSW, to get support on his journey as he had been unemployed for nine months.
One of Corey’s greatest attributes is his ability to receive feedback and use it to continuously develop. From day one, Corey always showed up to his appointments with a positive attitude and a strong desire to return to work.
Corey is a people person. He shared with the team that he would be happy to work anywhere, as long as it involved teamwork and customer service. Corey said, “I just love making friends and working with people.”
Corey was being supported by Job Coach, Shalini, and Employer Engagement Consultant, Jennifer. Shalini and Jennifer were blown away by Corey’s attitude and both encouraged him to attend atWork Australia’s First Steps to Success event in Penrith.
The event would provide Corey an opportunity to network with a variety of local employers who were actively looking for new team members. At the event, Corey met with Andrew, a manager from Hungry Jacks in Penrith.
Just as the atWork Australia team were blown away by Corey, so was Andrew. He offered Corey an opportunity to join the Hungry Jacks team as a Crew member.
Corey was amazed with the outcome and was grateful for atWork Australia connecting him with Hungry Jacks. “I am very happy with my new job at Hungry Jacks. I love being part of the team,” said Corey.
Now Corey is employed, he is being supported by In-Work Support Coach, Marilyn. During Corey’s first few shifts, both Marilyn and Shalini attended his workplace to ensure he felt comfortable and supported within his new environment.
Marilyn maintains regular contact with Corey as he is now settled and thriving in his new job. “Corey has been working since April, he is so happy with his new job,” said Marilyn.
Along with the support from atWork Australia, Corey was embraced by his wonderful team at Hungry Jacks.
“We are very happy that we partnered with atWork Australia. Corey is learning quickly and doing well. He is a really hard worker,” said Andrew.
