Disability Employment Services client, Matthew, was prepped, ready and confident heading into his dream career in Hospitality, with thanks to Job Coach, Gayle and the broader atWork Australia team in Sturt, South Australia.
Matthew has spent the past 4 years out of work, battling various physical and mental barriers. He was seeking tailored support on the road back to employment. Gayle was exactly what he was searching for.
With a rare skeletal disorder in his feet, Matthew was searching for a position that allowed him to work his best. Gayle spent time understanding his health condition, and how it affects his ability to work, and what work would be best suited for him.
In this session, the pair also discussed his interests, skills, and employment history. All this information would shape his job plan.
This plan included time boosting confidence in himself and his abilities, purchasing suitable footwear for everyday and work purposes, as well as providing technical computer skills to support his job searches. This was something they focused on in up-coming appointments.
“Once Matthew was comfortable, and ready to take the next steps on his journey, we started searching for suitable and sustainable jobs.” Said Gayle.
“Before his first interview, we worked with Matthew to prepare. New clothing was purchased, he got a fresh haircut, and we re-discussed some interview techniques.”
All his hard work paid off when he was later offered the part time position as a Kitchen Hand. He was overjoyed.
When reflecting on his journey, Matthew states; “Gayle has been amazing in helping me gain employment and overcome my challenges. Without her, I would not be where I am today, achieving my goals.”
