Meet Workforce Australia client, Connie. Her dream is to run her own café, all whilst financially supporting the homeless.
Connie entered the atWork Australia office in North Perth, WA, at a time where her physical health was at an all time low as a result of her cancer, and ongoing medical concerns. This meant that she was in and out of work.
Despite it all, she was very determined to find consistent, sustainable work, that works for her and her family.
This was seen by her Job Coach, Filda, during their first appointment together. “Connie has had quite the journey. From going through cancer treatment, brain surgery and going through the recovery process,” said Filda.
“Connie is a prime example of perseverance, determination and self-belief. She never gave up on herself.”
Filda worked with Connie throughout her cancer treatments, but knew this was not the right time for Connie to enter employment. Instead, they worked together to develop a plan that they would action once the time was right, and she felt job ready.
This plan encapsulated her goals to own her own café, one day. To kick start her journey Connie was enrolled in a Barista course to re-touch on all the skills she needed to succeed, after working within the industry in the past.
“Connie found the course to be amazing. It gave her more confidence in the field, expressing that she really enjoyed interacting and engaging with other people within the course,” said Filda.
With her skills refreshed, and her treatments completed, Connie felt job ready. Filda began to look for positions that suited Connie.
After a successful interview, Connie was offered a Customer Service Assistant position where she is waitressing and being a barista. This tied in with her goals, and her love for working and interacting with people.
Connie loves her position and has built a great rapport with her employer. She is grateful for all the ongoing support from the atWork Australia team in North Perth.
