Greg came to atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services office in St Mary’s, NSW, with a negative attitude towards his future.
After a car accident left Greg with injuries and mental health conditions, he was sure he wouldn’t find suitable work and wasn’t motivated at all.
He started working with Job Coach, Alisha, who got to know more about Greg; his culture, his goals and what interested him.
They discussed enrolling Greg in a Certificate III in Education Support to open up new opportunities to work with children in the community.
After Greg completed his Certificate, he was starting to feel more motivated to look for work and starting to see the possibilities.
They spoke about the types of industries and opportunities available in his local area. Alisha worked hard to find Greg a role that was right for him.
Greg soon started a part-time role as an Aboriginal Health Transport Driver.
“Employment was the real winner for Greg. He has had a complete attitude turn around. He is always smiling and laughing,” said Alisha.
“Greg is so proud to be working to support children in the community.”
Greg is very vocal in displaying his gratitude towards atWork Australia, often saying he would be “be buggered without them”.
“My Job Coach, Alisha, and the team in St Mary’s have always been so patient and understanding. They are very supportive of Indigenous cultural ways which made my journey into work so much smoother,” said Greg, atWork Australia client.
