Christine had been a full-time mother, then full-time carer for her elderly parents. When she became ready to enter the workforce, her lack of workplace experience was her main barrier to securing good work.
Christine came to atWork Australia (previously MBC) for extra support to help her find meaningful and sustainable work.
She started working with Employment Consultant Maddison and decided to throw herself into learning as much as possible to try to gain work in hospitality.
“We supported Christine to purchase a laptop to upskill herself in areas she was interested in,” said Maddison.
Christine completed an impressive number of training courses including an introduction to business and computer skills, pre-employment training courses, and a hospitality course and is now completing a Certificate III in Hospitality.
She also completed atWork Australia’s group workshop pre-employment series which covers all the soft skills needed to feel more confident when apply for or starting a new job.
Here Christine was able to meet with others in a similar situation to her and share her experiences while practicing speaking in front of others.
This dedication to learning and improving her skills landed Christine a front-of-house hospitality role at a local hotel.
“We helped Christine with clothing for her interview and helped her with transport to and from her interview,” said Maddison.
“I’m so glad to see Christine in good work. She deserves this success due to her dedication and commitment to upskilling.”– Christine, jobactive Client, NSW
