Cheryn is an open and enthusiastic individual, working towards her goal of securing employment. She has experience working as a Kitchen Hand in multiple restaurants, however her goal is to become a chef.
Cheryn was unemployed for 20 years and is living with an intellectual disability and hearing impairment. She experienced difficulties achieving her goal due to a lack of skills, qualifications and awareness about how to start working towards achieving her goal.
Cheryn reached out to atWork Australia in Campbelltown where she met Job Coach Sarah. Sarah worked together with Cheryn to create small goals related to building her skills, qualifications and confidence. The next step was to enroll Cheryn in a Certificate III in Hospitality. Cheryn completed her Certificate successfully and completed her work experience at Campbelltown Catholic Club. With the assistance of Sarah, Cheryn, secured a role with Campbelltown Catholic Club. She was welcomed in their team and Cheryn valued the exposure she was getting to the hospitality industry.
When Sarah told Cheryn the good news she: “was over the moon to find out that she had been offered employment”. Cheryn even asked her Job Coach to call and tell her dad.
Sarah says: “Cheryn’s journey from the beginning has been a great experience with atWork Australia. She worked very hard to complete her Certificate III and proved herself to be a valuable team player during her work experience which landed her an offer of paid employment. Cheryn is continuing to work on her skills, and the atWork Australia team have just enrolled her into a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
Sarah adds: “Cheryn has been so thankful and appreciative towards atWork Australia, and me, for helping her apply for studies and refer her to employers on her behalf, and for finding a great working environment at Campbelltown Catholic Club. Working with Cheryn has been a rewarding experience for us both and she has always been focused on achieving her goals in both her studies and gaining employment. I am so very proud of how far Cheryn has come in her journey with atWork Australia.”
Cheryn says: “I am so thankful to Sarah and the atWork Australia team for helping me achieve my goals and get closer to becoming a chef.”
