Workforce Australia client, Carly’s journey to sustainable employment is complex. She was actively upskilling in traffic control and hospitality. She was landing work, but it wasn’t resulting in long-term sustainable employment.
It was until Job Coach, Viviana, from the Cronulla atWork Australia office, understood Carly’s complex needs that she began to progress towards employment.
Carly’s barriers weren’t just about finding a job. Her mental health, unstable housing and financial struggles were impacting her journey.
She began working with atWork Australia in May 2023, by August that year she had a job. atWork Australia supported her with work related clothing and transport however the job didn’t work out.
She then found work as a bartender, but during this time her housing became unstable, and she was unable to work.
Viviana worked closely with Carly, motivating and encouraging her. She focused on Carly’s mindset to foster a positive outlook.
Carly was supported with grocery vouchers during her time of financial hardship. She was also referred to atWork Australia’s internal Wellness Services for additional support.
Through ongoing genuine care for Carly’s circumstances, she began to feel more motivated. She landed another role in traffic control.
The atWork Australia team supported her to purchase a radio for her new role, and once again supported with work related clothing.
“By equipping her with the required personal protective equipment to start work, Carly was able to secure a traffic controller role,” said Viviana.
“On her day off recently, she even came back to express gratitude for all the support she has received from us.”

For Carly her journey is not over, she is now moving to a new town and with her new motivation and positive outlook, the atWork Australia team knows she will do well in finding sustainable employment.
