Workforce Australia client, Janet, had not had work in a significant number of years.
She was dealing with other priorities in her life including poor health, the passing of several family members and becoming a carer for a friend.
She was in her 50’s when she was connected to atWork Australia in Modbury, SA, and to her Job Coach, Helen.
Helen first connected Janet to our in-house Wellness Services, so she could gain support with her health and wellbeing.
Janet shared with Helen that she might be interested in retail work but had limited experience.
Due to Janet’s length of time out of the workforce, and her limited experience, especially when it came to new technologies in the workplace. In an attempt to build her confidence to return to work she was referred into Workforce Australia’s Career Transition Assistance Program.
The Career Transition Assistance program supports clients to build skills and confidence to become more competitive in the local labour market.
“Career Transition Assistance supported Janet to learn skills, understand her transferrable skills and gain confidence in her job searching ability,” said Helen
“By undertaking this training, she has increased her professional network by interacting with trainers, fellow students and potential employers relevant to her chosen career pathway.”
As part of the Career Transition Assistance, Janet also improved her digital literacy skills to help her apply for jobs online and use technology in the workplace such as computers and tablets.
She also made friends with others participating in the course, and this extended social group supported her wellbeing.
Janet is now looking to a volunteer position at a local hospital to further grow her network and gain valuable experience that will help he progress on her employment journey.
Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Janet expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
