A back condition forced Roberta out of the workforce two years ago. She spent that time focusing on her health, and when she was ready to start looking for casual work, she attended the atWork Australia Disability Employment Services office in Bendigo, Victoria.
As she walked in and met her new Job Coach, Kylie, she was feeling apprehensive about possibly returning to work, unsure how she would go with her back condition and finding a supportive employer.
Kylie reassured Roberta, that our goal is to help her find something suitable for her needs and discussed all the ways we can support her.
Kylie had a discussion with Roberta, learning about what kinds of work she would be interested in and what she thought might suit her abilities.
Right away, a supportive employer, who Kylie knew well, came to mind. She asked Roberta if she would be okay with her giving them a quick call, and they said they would come in to meet Roberta right away.
While they waited for the employer to arrive, Kylie coached Roberta on what they might ask her during the meeting.
Roberta couldn’t believe she was already meeting with an employer in her first appointment.
By the time Roberta had finished in her appointment, employment had been offered to Roberta.
“Roberta is still stating she is blown away how quick this all took place in one appointment. She has let us know she is happy with her new role and enjoying it,” said Job Coach Kylie.
atWork Australia continues to support Roberta as she settles into her new job, making sure she has all the right equipment and work-related clothing to support her back condition. “Roberta walked in to discuss employment and walked out with a job.”
