After more than two years of unemployment, it took Brian and his atWork Australia DES Job Coach Lauren only one month to tap into the right mindset for employment and land a permanent job in an industry that Brian knows well.
Brian had always been a hard worker, having previously worked as a tyre technician and in scaffolding and roof tiling. However, after a personal tragedy, he was challenged with grief, anxiety and depression. Not knowing how to cope, he ‘went off the rails’, turned to substances and became unemployed.
Brian’s first turning point for the better was when he took the step to quit alcohol and drugs. He then looked to atWork Australia in Mandurah to find work – something that would truly signal his return to the life he had once known.
In his first meeting with Lauren, Brian bravely opened up about his personal circumstances and expressed his determination to find employment. Brian’s previous work history provided Lauren with plenty to work with, so she harnessed his motivation and immediately set about creating a new résumé that would highlight his skills and strengths to employers. Lauren and Brian then set about contacting local tyre repair companies to see what work was available.
It didn’t take long for this targeted reverse marketing to pay dividends. Brian secured an interview with the local Bob Jane T-Mart and landed the position, starting the very next day.
Lauren’s support wasn’t done yet. She quickly arranged the necessary items for Brian to start well-equipped and confident, organising fuel cards, appropriate clothing and boots. Lauren also arranged the appropriate uniform after Brian secured the permanent position.
Needless to say, Brian was over the moon.
“Within one month with Lauren, I had a job. I was rapt. I couldn’t believe it!” He added, “Thank you, it means the world. Employment will help me with my mental health and is going to allow me to be happier within myself.”
Lauren remains in contact with Brian and has been thrilled to see the difference in his outlook and confidence. And it’s a story that she uses to inspire many other job seekers that she works with.
