"Benjamin is a diligent employee who pays careful attention to detail. He is eager to learn new skills, foster professional relationships, and develop greater independence in his role." - Paul, Community Access Care

Disability Employment Services client, Benjamin entered the Wilsonton office in Queensland, unsure of his resume, and the value he would bring to the workplace. After connecting with his Job Coach, Emma, he no longer doubts his abilities. He knows his value, as does his new employer.

When first connecting with the atWork Australia team, 20-year-old Benjamin had been out of work for six months. He believed that he did not have a resume. This was short lived after he, and his support worker, spoke with Emma.

“Benjamin was looking to find the right employment for him. He was unsure how to job search, and what sort of companies were out there to support him,” said Emma.

After getting to know Benjamin, Emma pulled together a resume, based on his skills, interests and goals.

“He came to us thinking that he had no resume whatsoever. Benjamin was really shocked when I sat with him and created a resume.  He was surprised to see the skills on there because he didn’t think he had any, when in fact he really did,” said Emma.

This was a key first step for Benjamin in realising his value, giving him confidence.

At an appointment, Benajmin learnt of a position available. The employer, Community Access Care, was looking for Car Wash Attendants.

After hearing of the position, Benajmin went straight to the employer that same afternoon and introduced himself. Manager, Paul, was so impressed with Benjamin, he hired him on that very day.

Emma was able to financially support Benjamin in purchasing new clothes for his first shift.

Since starting work, Benjamin has learnt a whole new skill set and is loving being able to implement these skills in his everyday life. In addition to new skills, Benjamin is loving the financial freedom having a job provides. He has been able to meet his first financial goal of purchasing a car. With this goal complete, he is working toward his long-term goal of purchasing a caravan.

Paul and the Community Access Care team love having Benjamin on board.
