Ben first came to atWork Australia as a Workforce Australia client. He had been out of work for over a year, and as a parent he was wanting to find employment to support his family.

During this time the atWork Australia team supported Ben to find a few different roles that suited his goals. However, Ben was finding these work environments stressful, and feeling anxious which led to him falling out of work.

Ben was then diagnosed as living with depression and anxiety and transferred to our Disability Employment Services team in Penrith, NSW.

These experiences impacted his confidence and motivation at times. He was connected to his Job Coach, Rimsha, who go to know Ben.

“Ben was initially unclear about his goals and felt frustrated by having to fill in forms. Without a computer, completing forms on his small mobile phone screen was frustrating, but I let him know I would be here to support him to complete his paperwork,” said Rimsha. “We would often do it together on my computer.”

Ben was also anxious about his financial situation having been unemployed for some time. Rimsha let him know we would financially support him with his work search including helping him get to interviews.

Ben appreciated Rimsha’s patience and understanding and together they began looking for roles that might be more suitable to his health conditions.

As an experienced Job Coach, Rimsha supported Ben to learn strategies to work with his anxiety in the workplace.

The atWork Australia team where then advised of a hygiene technician role through an employer partner, and they thought it would suit Ben, and shared the job details with him.

With the support of Rimsha and the local Employer Engagement team member Jennifer, Ben was successful in landing the role.

atWork Australia then assisted Ben with work related clothing and shoes which give him more confidence to start his first day at job.

“Ben now feels more confident and calmer as he found his desired and sustainable employment,” said Rimsha.

“I appreciate the atWork Australia Penrith team who provided every possible support to me and helped me to find a perfect match for me,” said Ben.

“This job gives me a new purpose and perspective. I’m grateful for your ongoing assistance in finding a suitable position that aligns with my skills and well-being.”
