Austin (60), is a grandfather who spends quality time with his grandchildren, helping them with their commitments. Austin has worked for the City of Fremantle for over 18 years.
Austin is living with anxiety and was not sure if he would work again. This led to Austin questioning himself, impacting his self-confidence. Austin applied for several entry level jobs, however due to being overqualified, he was unsuccessful.
Austin reached out to atWork Australia in Hamilton Hill where he met Job Coach, Courtney. Courtney assisted Austin with his interview preparation and had one on one job search sessions with him. She also assisted Austin with completing a MYOB course and referred him to Employer Engagement Consultant, Henry.
With the assistance of Courtney and Henry, Austin was able to secure a Team Member role at Bunnings Warehouse.
When Courtney told Austin about his new role he was “ecstatic.”
Courtney says: “Austin, never in a million years would have thought that he would be working for Bunnings.”
Courtney adds: “Austin has been very adaptable and open to new challenges. We built a good relationship and I helped him look out of his comfort zone for other roles he may not have considered before. He was always willing to give anything a go and double check anything he was not sure on.”
Bunnings and atWork Australia have a long-standing relationship. They are a very supportive employer for atWork Australia clients.
Bunnings say: “Austin has started really well. He has been put on the trade gate which is an introductory role but can definitely dish-up some challenges. Austin has embraced those challenges and made the role his own. He has shown great enthusiasm in all aspects of the job and we are glad to have him as a part of the team!”
Courtney says: “Austin was a little nervous in his first appointment, however as I worked with him on a weekly basis, his confidence was built and he started to open up. Austin has a great sense of humor and would always try to have a laugh. He still pops in to see me regularly and raves about his new job. It’s been amazing working with Austin and watching him come out of his shell over the past few months. It was clear from the beginning that he would leave no stone unturned and give it his all.”
Henry says: “Austin always has a smile on his face, he is very quick witted and has a joke for every scenario! From the first time I met Austin, I could tell from his strong character that we would be able to find him some suitable employment. We put him forward for a team member position at Bunnings and since being accepted into the role he has hit the ground running. We have had really positive feedback from Austin’s managers, and I am confident Austin will have a long career with Bunnings.”
