atWork Australia supporting youth to find deadly jobs

atWork Australia recently showcased our services at the Great Southern Deadly Jobs and Careers Forum in Western Australia.

The annual event focuses on providing Indigenous youth looking for work, the opportunity to connect with career, training, and employment professionals.

The local atWork Australia team have attended this event since the inception and find it a great opportunity to connect with local organisations, and businesses of all scales within the region.

“There was a range of different stakeholders at the event, ranging from large scale employers such as Rio Tinto and Main Roads, through to community service employers, community support organisations, and RTO’s – government and private,” said atWork Australia Service Manager, Raine.

“The event allows us to get out and about within the community and share our belief that work’s for everyone. At the event, we connected with a range of attendees and look forward to welcoming them to atWork Australia once they leave school.”

The event was hosted by Ernie Dingo AM, an Indigenous Australian actor, television presenter and comedian, originating from the Yamatji people of the Murchison region of Western Australia.

This year there was an increased participation of soon to be school leavers, with some travelling up to two hours to attend the event.

Throughout the event Ernie spoke about the power of employment, receiving support and how employment journeys are not linear.

There were also a range of Q&A panels with elders, and others among the community talking about their employment journeys.

With over 200 Indigenous youth in attendance, the impact is undeniable. We look forward to continuing to work with the community, connecting people and business so both can thrive.
