As the atWork Australia team in Ravenswood, Tasmania were supporting their clients to find meaningful work, they heard many stories of homelessness.
63-year-old client, Denise for example, had told the team she had just purchased a van as she was about to become homeless.
Denise’s story was not the only story of homelessness in the area. So, the team decided to do more to support clients.
They installed a washing machine and dryer on site at the Ravenswood office. Not only does the washing machine support the wider homeless community, but it helps clients engage with employment services to find sustainable work.
“Since Denise has been living in her van, she has attended our office daily to ensure she has clean clothing. She has also even used our freezer to store some items in,” said Job Coach, Anna.
Denise started with atWork Australia in 2023 as a Workforce Australia client. As the team got to know her, they understood her mental health conditions and supported Denise to transfer to Disability Employment Services for the right help.
While she transitioned programs, the team further supported Denise by connecting her to our internal wellness services for professional help.
“We have laughed, cried, felt frustrated, right alongside Denise, who despite her current circumstances brings such a positive attitude,” said Anna.
“Denise has told me she feels like part of the atWork Australia family.”
While Denise still looks for work, she is now volunteering with her local church, so she can give back to the community in the same way the community has supported her.
Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Denise expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
