At 60, Wesley was looking to enter the workforce for the very first time. She didn’t believe anyone would want to hire someone long-term unemployed, at her age, and with no work experience. She also had a health condition.
She came to atWork Australia’s Townsville office with little confidence in her ability to gain employment.
Job Coach Georgia, in partnership with the Employer Engagement Consultant worked closely with Wesley in managing and changing her views. Georgia coached Wesley with interview techniques and supported her with work clothing.
Wesley had many transferrable skills from her time as a mother and grandmother, which the team used to create a resume.
“Wesley’s confidence steadily grew to the point where she was actively seeking employment and following up on referrals. She is so much more confident now,” said Georgia.
The Employer Engagement Consultant reached out to a local business who were looking for cleaners and is known for being a supportive employer. Here Wesley found her first-ever role.
“I feel useful and have told my friends and family about the support atWork Australia has given me,” said Wesley.
The team enjoyed finding Wesley the perfect role for her.
“Watching Wesley go from never being employed to working has been a privilege,” said Georgia.
“I am very happy and thankful for this opportunity. The support the girls have given me is amazing. The role was perfect for me and my circumstances” – Wesley, DES Client, QLD
