When entering the atWork Australia office in Golden Grove, SA, Cherrelle had been out of the workforce for the past nine years after a long career as an Enrolled Nurse.
She was unable to continue this career path because of health concerns, as well as becoming a primary parent to her child. This significant time out of the workforce affected her confidence in her abilities. She felt anxious about, not only her return, but also her transition into another industry.
She was partnered with Disability Employment Services Job Coach, Tamara, to achieve her goals.
“When I first met Cherrelle, she was determined to find long term sustainable employment that would not affect her caring responsibilities. She was eager to return to work, but just did not know where to start, especially with her transition,” said Tamara.
In their first appointment together, they created a tailored job plan that outlined her goal of returning to the workforce, and what they were going to do together, to get her there.
One key pillar of this plan was to build her confidence up, and her anxiety down. To complete this goal, she was referred to our internal Allied Health Services. She was also connected with an external relationship support service for more specific support.
When any opportunity was available to chat, and connect with potential employers, Cherrelle was interested. As a result, she attended a local First Steps to Success event which connects employers, training organisations, and clients together.
Whilst attending these appointments and events, Cherrelle continued to work with Tamara on her employment goals, as well as polishing her resume to impress employers – which is what it exactly did. Cherrelle was invited for attend an interview.
Tamara and the atWork Australia team prepped her ahead of her interview via coaching, and financial support to get to and from her interview. She was later offered the part-time Phlebotomist position, catering to her caring responsibilities.
In this next phase of her journey, Tamara assisted Cherrelle in obtaining her Police Clearance, Working with Children Check as well as a First Aid Certificate.
“Cherrelle is loving her new position and is tracking well towards her three-month milestone. She has mentioned to me how happy she is with her current employment and life in general,” said Tamara. “She feels much more financially stable than she has in a long time. Her kids are adapting well to the change too!”
“atWork Australia has helped me in every way possible. Not just getting my resume up to date and refreshing some of my skills, but with my mental health too.” – Cherrelle, atWork Australia client.
