As a mature age client, Penetito, came to atWork Australia at a difficult point in his working life. At 61 years old, he had been with his previous employer for many years working as a Painter.
Unfortunately, Penetito was unexpectedly made redundant, and he was forced to reevaluate his employment future. This was an incredibly difficult time for Penetito, given his age, and his limited knowledge of the current job market, he was concerned about how he would be able to return to work.
Penetito was concerned about his future. He didn’t know how he could progress towards new employment. However, he knew he could not do it alone and connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Chester Hill, NSW.

Given Penetito had recently been made redundant from his long-time employer, he was lacking motivation, confidence and initially he was not interested in undertaking any training or upskilling.
Angela was patient with Penetito, she was understanding of his frustrations of how his previous employment had ended. However, she strongly encouraged him to consider upskilling and explained how this would benefit him in trying to find suitable employment that he would enjoy.
As the pair developed a stronger connection, Penetito began to change his mind set and was willing to consider upskilling opportunities.
Penetito and Angela discussed a variety of opportunities and pathways to progress towards employment. Penetito decided he would like to pursue warehousing opportunities, particularly as aforklift operator.
To help Penetito achieve this goal, atWork Australia supported him to obtain his high reaching forklift licence.
Angela encouraged Penetito to attend atWork Australia’s First Steps to Success event in Chester Hill. This event would give Penetito an opportunity to network and connect with local employers who are looking to hire new team members.
At the event, Penetito connected with one of Australia’s largest employers and submitted his interest on the spot. After the event, Angela supported Penetito to prepare his formal application.
Penetito was successful in securing a Forklift Driver position and is now preparing to commence his new job.
