Mirrabooka local, Aruai, entered the atWork Australia office, looking for guidance on her journey back to employment, after one year out of the workforce.
When meeting with her Job Coach, Mai, for the first time, culturally and linguistically diverse client, Aruai had recently experienced a relationship breakdown, had significant caring responsibilities for her children, and did not have her driver’s licence. All which limit her capacity to work.
“She was always eager to work, she just needed tailored support to get there,” said Mai.
Mai would later prove to be this person for her.
Within their first appointment, the pair discussed her goals, and how atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia program could assist to get her there, in turn easing her nerves.
Due to her caring responsibilities, she was only able to work on a part time basis. This aligned with her goal of becoming a housekeeper.
With this goal in mind, Mai was able to refer her into a housekeeping course with a local Registered Training Organisation. Ahead of this course, atWork Australia financially supported her in purchasing clothing, and transportation vouchers.
“This course spanned one week, and Aruai enjoyed the opportunity to learn, hands on,” said Mai.
She was also referred to our internal, MoneyMinded program to learn money management skills, and techniques.
After the conclusion of these courses, Mai and Aruai pulled together a tailored cover letter and resume to showcasing her skills, both old and new.
At the same time, Mai continued to work on boosting Aruai’s confidence in herself, and her abilities within the workplace. This included performing mock interviews within her appointments.
The timing of these mock interviews was perfect. As soon after, Employer Engagement Consultant, Nicholas, found the perfect position for Aruai and her requirements. Nicholas supported her to apply and was successful in obtaining the position.
“Aruai is excited for her career, and its pathways. As a result of her new position, she now has a better relationship with her children,” said Mai.
