Annie, 65, from Deception Bay (QLD) shows no signs of slowing down, even with a shoulder injury.
Annie’s shoulder injury had meant she was on a medical suspension until December 2021, meaning she was not required to work, or look for work, during that time to maintain her Centrelink support.
Annie joined atWork Australia in March 2021 and was not motivated to find employment. She was due to start receiving her pension in September and did not want to work.
Annie was introduced to her Job Coach, Kyla, who was very excited to meet her new client. Kyla discussed with Annie the option of a casual job for eight hours per week to provide her with a little bit of extra income to help her buy the things she needs.
A week later, Annie contacted Kyla and said her daughter had told her about a job cleaning schools.
Kyla made an appointment for Annie to discuss the role in more detail and what she needed to be able to apply. Annie needed a Blue Card, Police Check and a Working with Children Check. Kyla was able to organise these appointments and make the payments so she could get started within a few days.
At Annie’s next appointment, she told Kyla that she is working 38 hours, not eight, and absolutely loving it. Annie reported that she is feeling much more positive and loves the income.
Annie visits Kyla every week to hand in her pay slips and let her know how she is going.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, Annie couldn’t keep working after the schools closed. However, only four weeks later, Annie had another job; again, working over the eight-hour benchmark.
Annie is enjoying her work and is showing no signs of slowing down. Kyla said, “this is so encouraging for people who think they can’t work because of their age. Annie has proved everyone wrong and I am so happy she is doing well in her job and enjoying it.”
Kyla said, “Annie is a star client, hard worker and never gives up.”
