When atWork Australia collaborates with employers who have a passion, and commitment to diversity and inclusion, we create meaningful impact. Enriching the culture of workplaces for all.
One collaboration which highlights this impact, is atWork Australia’s alliance with Amazon. Since the start of our collaboration, we have placed over 200 clients into employment, the majority are people who live with disability, health condition or disadvantage.
We have also placed other underrepresented cohorts, such as Indigenous clients, people from culturally diverse backgrounds and refugees to foster diversity and provide meaningful work opportunities for all of our clients, because work’s for everyone.
Indigenous client, Andrew, originally from Wiradjuri country now living in Sydney with his family, has recently started working at Amazon’s fulfilment centre, via a recruitment organisation.
Andrew lives with social anxiety and depression. As a result of Amazon’s inclusive hiring practices and supportive workplace, he is now thriving in a job he enjoys.
Andrew works in inbound goods, and now has something to look forward to every day.
“Being employed has helped me a lot by giving me something to wake up to, giving me routine, and giving me a chance to save up money to buy a little sports car,” said Andrew.
“I enjoy getting to work early, to be able to get to input into the music we listen to each day.”
Recently atWork Australia presented to Amazon’s leadership team in recognition of International Day of People with Disability. Amazon was presented with a certificate of appreciation for their commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Michelle, Amazon’s Head of HR for Australian Operations, said that the collaboration between atWork Australia and Amazon is something they are deeply appreciative of.
“atWork Australia helps us to find the right candidates. They take the time to come in and really get to know us and our roles,” said Michelle.
“We are deeply appreciative of the long-term collaboration. It doesn’t finish at the hiring stage but includes coaching and partnership with our employees living with a disability, whilst also supporting our leaders.”
By understanding the business, atWork Australia prepares clients for working at Amazon, including pre-employment training which covers ‘a day in the life’ for the different roles available. This supports clients like Andrew who lives with anxiety feel more comfortable and ensures clients have the right qualifications such as LO forklift licence to succeed at Amazon.
