Dennis was trying to put his past behind him when he started working with atWork Australia in Menai, NSW.
He came to Workforce Australia as an ex-offender who was participating in a rehabilitation program to improve his health.
When Dennis met with Job Coach, Kaniz, he was unsure what type of work would suit him and what direction to take in his future career.
Kaniz referred Dennis to our internal Wellness Services as an additional support on his journey to improved health and wellness.
She also supported him to update his resume, focusing on his past experiences, skills and abilities.
Dennis was working hard to find employment, attending all his wellness sessions, and meeting with employers at the First Steps to Success events hosted in the atWork Australia office.
He received rejection after rejection for the roles he was applying for. Reasons included, Dennis’ background, lack of experience in that industry, and no formal qualifications.
The atWork Australia team could see Dennis’ commitment and drive to work hard in employment. Employer Engagement Consultant, Isabela, was introduced to Dennis to start advocating to employers on his behalf.
Isabela found the perfect role for Dennis; one that suited his abilities, his goals, and his interests. With the support of the atWork Australia team, he applied for the job.
Unfortunately, once again he wasn’t progressed to an interview due to his background.
Isabela called the employer and advocated for Dennis, encouraging them to meet with him and give him a chance. She then met with the management team to further advocate for Dennis.
Through Isabela’s hard work, Dennis was offered a trial as a Warehouse Assistant within the company.
atWork Australia supported Dennis to purchase work related clothing, and transport to get to and from work those first weeks.
This role was an important step for Dennis in improving his circumstances, as well as for his health and wellness journey as it helped keep his mind busy.
The job meant that Dennis was finally able to source secure housing, something he was unable to do without employment.
Every year, atWork Australia help thousands of clients like Dennis expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
