Alison was connected to ParentsNext in Hamilton Hill, Western Australia four years ago.
At the time she was grieving the loss of a child and was experiencing challenging behaviours with her child at kindergarten.
She was connected to services to support with her health and wellbeing, meanwhile Alison worked with her Job Coach Liliana to look at her employment goals.
After many discussions Alison decided she wanted to pursue a career in Community Services to assist vulnerable people to improve their lives.
atWork Australia supported Alison to complete a Certificate III in Community Services and provided her with a refurbished laptop to complete her studies
However, her study was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. She was unable to complete the work placements required to complete the certificate due to changes in the industry.
But this didn’t stop her motivation, she asked what else she could do to continue on her journey to employment.
atWork Australia put Alison through a pre-employment training course and funded a police check.
She was then successful in obtaining two casual work positions in hospitality, but she was still determined to finish her study in Community Services.
Alison has thrived in her hospitality roles, and she is now in a permanent full-time position.
Alison is proud to see that her achievements and motivation have inspired her children, with her eldest son now looking for his own employment after seeing Alison’s success.
She still hopes to finish her study in the future.
“ParentsNext have supported me all the way with giving me financial assistance, the confidence, direction, support and guidance for my success. Even my oldest son has been motivated by my success to find his own employment,” said Alison.
