For a long period of Beatriz life, she has been busy raising her four children and caring for her family. Now, at 52 years old, she has decided it’s time to do something for herself and began exploring her employment options.
Beatriz was hoping to find a position in retail or hospitality. Given the current high cost of living, she was eager to start work so she could provide additional support to her children and grandchildren.
The early days in Beatrizs employment journey did not go to plan, she was finding it difficult to get the support and guidance she required. Attending appointments was overwhelming and she would be overcome with anxiety.
Having been out of employment for 25 years, her confidence was low, she had limited experience and required tailored support with a gentle approach to returning to work.
Due to being so unhappy with the support she was receiving, Beatriz decided to transfer to atWork Australia and was connected with the Disability Employment Services team in Bulleen, VIC.
Beatriz was introduced to her Job Coach, who began asking lots of questions to find out about her hobbies and interest so they could begin looking for suitable employment.
Now that Beatriz felt she was in a supportive environment, she shared that she experiences mental health concerns, didn’t have a drivers licence and was a bit overwhelmed about returning to work. Her Job Coach reassured her that atWork Australia were here to support her and even after she had secured a job, we would continue to support her.
Soon enough, they found a suitable position as a room attendant at the Novotel. With the support of the atWork Australia team, Beatriz began preparing for her first job interview in 25 years. Beatriz was blown away to learn that she was successful, and she commenced working soon after.
The early days in her new job were challenging for Beatriz, she had a lot of anxiety and low confidence in her ability to perform her role. Beatriz was now being supported by her In-Work Support Coach, Kitty, who continuously provided encouragement and built her self-belief.
Beatriz has recently celebrated six months in her new job and she continues to grow and is thriving in her workplace. It has been a long journey for Beatriz, but she is proud of the progress she has made and that she can now financially support her family.
“Thank you, Kitty, you have been my rock. All your support has made working and managing my anxiety so much easier,” said Beatriz.
