Adam came to atWork Australia with experience and skills in the workforce, bringing a positive attitude and the willingness to find employment. Adam has an intellectual disability, Asperger’s Syndrome and Bipolar Disorder, and just didn’t know what work was right for him, having been unemployed for three months. He required some extra support to find and keep the right job – that’s where Pauline, Adam’s atWork Australia Job Coach came in.
Together Pauline and Adam investigated jobs that would be suitable for Adam, such as roles with later start times, and work that meant he could utilise and build his skills and experience.
Pauline and Adam found a role with Cloverdale Facility Services, a cleaning company. The role appealed to Adam, and he applied and interviewed. He received a very positive phone call after his interview – he was offered the job! “When asked to come in to have the paperwork sorted, Adam attended the office almost instantly and couldn’t have been happier,” Pauline said.
To settle into his new job, Adam required some support from atWork Australia. Pauline helped Adam to open up his communication whenever he required support. A key strategy that proved to be effective was creating a weekly roster that Adam was able to use to know what sites, days and hours he was working at, which also really helped reduce his anxiety.
Adam has settled in really well, and is receiving glowing feedback from his new employer, “Adam’s work is very thorough and of high quality. He has great attention to detail and completes the job with 100% effort put in each and every time. We have received great feedback from our clients.”
Pauline is very proud and excited for Adam, “Adam has found a new sense of fulfilment and purpose ever since finding his new role with Cloverdale. It really fits in well with his daily lifestyle as he has the flexibility to start his work of an afternoon, which suits Adam. Adam has adapted well to his new routine, his employer and work environment and he sees himself working for them for many years to come,” Pauline said. A great outcome for Adam and his employer.
Adam has built great confidence whilst working and is enjoying making plans for the future. “Excellent work from the team at atWork Australia, being employed has made daily life a lot easier for me and less challenging. I’m now setting new goals to reach for the future,” Adam said.
