Abrar migrated to Australia from Pakistan and despite his best efforts to find work, he has spent the past three years unemployed. Abrar came to atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia office in Katanning, WA, for support to find employment.
Abrar was born overseas and after migrating to Australia has faced many obstacles when trying to find employment. These include; language barriers, limited skills and education, adjusting to life in a new country and not having a driver’s licence. Where Abrar lives in Katanning, is a small country town in the Great Southern of Western Australia. A small town with limited public transport, it is difficult to get around without a driver’s licence.
When Abrar met his Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, he mentioned he had worked in the Construction industry for many years before coming to Australia, however, he had no formal qualifications. Brendan was determined to help Abrar and began developing a plan for how atWork Australia could support him.
Brendan referred Abrar to the Wanderer Program, this program would support Abrar to work towards obtaining his drivers licence. Next, Abrar attended an online training course to obtain his White Card, which he would require to gain work on a construction site. Due to Abrar’s language barrier, his Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, was able to support him throughout the training; assisting him with navigating the technology and understanding the course content. Now with his White Card completed, Abrar has recently enrolled in a Certificate III in Civil Construction. Throughout this certificate Abrar will learn and gain tickets to operate four different machines.
Abrar’s Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, said, ‘Abrar has been so grateful for all the support he has received from atWork Australia. He has made substantial progress since commencing with atWork Australia’s services. He is now more ready than ever, to gain employment in his preferred industry.”
Abrar has worked hard over the past few months to develop his English skills, gain new qualifications and prepare himself to be successful in the workplace. Through hard work, determination and the right support, Abrar has prepared himself for a successful working career. Abrar said ‘I have never felt more prepared to find employment.”
