A career change due to health conditions, led Aaron to his passion in supporting others.
Career changes can be scary, especially if it was not within your control, which was the case for Disability Employment Services client, Aaron. For assistance in returning to work, he reached out to atWork Australia in Noarlunga, South Australia.
Upon entering the office, Aaron was eager to enter the workforce and try something new, but he did not know where to begin. All he knew, was that he did not want to study.
After meeting with his Job Coach, Katrina, the pair discussed his employment past, his skills, as well as his interests to get a better understanding of what industries he would enjoy. One key theme that stood out to Katrina, was he passion to work with, and assist, people.
Based on this finding, Katrina recommended support work. He was hesitant at first, as it required training, but after discussions with Katrina, he decided that he would be willing to commit to completing a Certificate III in Individual Support. He was actually looking forward to it.
Whilst completing his studies, the pair worked on building the perfect resume and cover letter to impress potential employers. And it did just that. Within weeks of completing the course, he was offered a full-time position as a Support Worker. He was thrilled.
After acing his interview, atWork Australia were able to financially support Aaron in purchasing clothing for work.
“Working has built his self-confidence and direction in his life. He loves helping the community and is looking forward to many more years of work. He has not looked back!” Says Katrina.
“Katrina is attentive, friendly, motivating, and professional. I truly feel she has my interests and goals at the forefront of our discussions and searches. I could not ask for more.” – Aaron, Disability Employment Services Client.
