18 years ago, Rasha made a big decision to pack up her life and move to Australia with her four children.
As a solo parent, Rasha has had her hands full raising her young family and settling into life in a new country. Navigating her way through a new life with four children and not being able to speak English is a challenge not many people would understand.
Rasha came to Australia dreaming of a fresh start and better life for her family. Now her children have grown up, Rasha has shifted her focus onto finding employment. She had never had a job in Australia, it had been 18 years since she had been in employment in her home country.
She was nervous, lacked confidence in applying for work, had limited experience due to her long gap in employment, and was unsure how to find employment on her own.
Despite the challenges ahead, Rasha was determined to succeed and connected with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Mirrabooka, WA.
Before moving to Australia, Rasha had previously worked in accounting positions. However, she was now looking to pursue opportunities in retail as it would better suit her current lifestyle.
Once connected with atWork Australia, Rasha gained support from Employer Engagement Consultant, Jess and her Job Coach, Elena. When Rasha shared her goal to enter the retail industry, Jess had a perfect pathway in mind.
atWork Australia are working with a national jewellery retailer and Rasha was referred to the Identify and Prepare for Employment Program (IPEP), which would support the retail giant to secure new team members.
The program built Rasha’s confidence to enter the retail industry and prepared her for an interview with the employer on day three of the program. Additionally, atWork Australia provided funding to purchase interview clothing and footwear to boost Rasha’s confidence ahead of her interview.
atWork Australia supported Rasha to upskill by enrolling her in the “Foundations of Diamonds” course to develop her knowledge of selling jewellery
“Rasha was so happy when she heard that she secured the position. She put in the hard work to prepare for this position and her success is well deserved,” said Jess.
“Rasha is fantastic, and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team,” said Rasha’s State Manager.
“Participating in the Identify and Prepare for Employment Program has set me up for employment success. I felt supported from the beginning to the end. I am enjoying my new role, and I look forward to going to work,” said Rasha.
