Carter (33) is living with depression and is working through some physical barriers in preparation for employment. In addition, for several years, he has been the main carer for his wife, foregoing employment opportunities that arose during this time.
Carter’s previous employment history included various roles from a Bus Driver to Individual Support Worker. Throughout, Carter has worked extremely hard to effectively manage his mental health issues which had impacted his concentration, efficiency in completing tasks particularly high stressful occasions and interaction with fellow workmates. With determination and the right support, Carter has focused on improving himself every day and become more confident in managing these barriers.
Carter reached out to atWork Australia in Mowbray, Tasmania. It was here, he met his Job Coach, Matthew. From the outset, Carter displayed an open mind, and together both Carter and Matthew explored some goals along with areas of interest for employment. Having established a clearer picture regarding suitability of employment, Matthew assisted Carter with building his resume and cover letter, provided tips on job searching, and assisted in obtaining a First Aid Certificate. Financial support was also provided for interview and work-related clothing in readiness with job applications and speaking with prospective employers.
Matthew also arranged for Carter to attend the hosted atWork Australia information session facilitated by Programmed. This strong relationship between atWork Australia and Programmed in Launceston, has been successful managed since 2021, collectively working together to assist clients to fill a variety of job vacancies. These sessions cover several key items including, the recruitment process and direct one on one screening for applicants.
Carter really liked what he saw and according to the employer, they were also equally impressed with Carter. Following the session, Matthew remained in contact with the employer regularly until a suitable opportunity became available.
“It is always special to help a client find suitable and sustainable employment. To be a part of that journey is very rewarding.”
Shortly after attending the information session, a position for a Process Worker became available with Australian Comfort Group, a National manufacturer of Sleepmaker Mattresses.
When Matthew told Carter the good news, he: “was over the moon, passionate and excited to secure a position.”
Carter says: “atWork Australia has really helped me in my job seeking journey. I am very pleased with the high level of support and the focus on helping me find a job.”
“I am surprised by the efforts my Job Coach Matthew has gone to in finding and securing suitable employment for me.”
