Selection Criteria Turns a Baker into Community Youth Worker
14/08/2007
In July, when David visited atWork Australia’s Glendalough Office, he was undertaking some part-time casual work in a bakery, which involved getting up in the early hours. After signing up into the Intensive Support Customised Assistance program, he met with his Case Manager and soon after with the Senior Marketer to discuss different possibilities. His long-term goal was to utilize the Psychology component of his Bachelor of Arts degree in order to move into Community Youth Work.
Instantly, the atWork team moved into action and the Marketer immediately increased his work at the bakery by 5 hours per week. In the meantime his Case Manager worked with David to address a lengthy Selection Criteria, for job lead sourced by the Marketer. Together, David and his Case Manager worked through the questions and managed to submit the application the following day.
David’s pleasure at the increase of hours at the bakery was quickly transformed to delight, when a week later he went for an interview for the Youth Worker’s Position at BJL Connecting Communities, later to be told that he had successfully been appointed as their new Youth Worker. David has now started work in this new role and is doing extremely well. To further improve his professional skills, he has been and has just undertaken a Certificate IV Course in Employment Services to assist his clients, funded by atWork Australia via the Job Seeker Account.
