Retail Therapy!

30/12/2006

My name is Michelle and I would like to share my work experiences with you.

I had been in the retail industry for over nine years working in a camping and outdoor store. I loved retail and had regular customers that would come in on a weekly basis.

I trained staff and brought the C grade store up to an A grade store. I loved my job and other staff from other stores always wanted to work with me.

I was a real “hands on” manager and made work a fun place to be not just for the staff but for the customers too.

Unfortunately whilst working in the store I had some nasty experiences.

I was the victim of a knife hostage, a gun hostage and blood filled syringe.

This changed my whole look on retail. I wasn’t able to go anywhere near the till for fear of it happening again.

They were all on crime stoppers but none of the perpetrators have ever been caught.

These incidents changed my life for ever. Working was impossible, just going outside my front door became difficult. The nightmares - which I still have – are horrific and I am now extremely hyper vigilant wherever I go.

I am now however back looking for work with the help of “atWork Australia” Mirrabooka and have had several job trials and interviews.

I know the perfect job is just around the corner, but you need to keep looking, keep a positive attitude and believe in your abilities. Going back to work after these traumatic events is hard – but I just keep on trying.

Coming into atWork Australia I find very helpful. All the staff are very friendly and willing to help whenever you need it.

I encourage anyone who is out of work to join a Job Network agency like “atWork Australia” because you don’t feel so alone and all the facilities are here to use – emails, fax, photocopier, etc.

I am still looking for the right job and have sent off many Resumes – The right job will be out there for me – you just have to keep on keeping on.

Happy Job Hunting.

Regards
Michelle
