atWork Provides Post Placement Support & Workplace Modifications
12/12/2006
Jenny a 22 year old job seeker on a Disability Support Pension came to atWork Australia (Glendalough) after she had been registered with Centrelink for over 24 weeks. Confined to a wheelchair, Jenny was looking for regular work in a Call Centre. Initially, Jenny had managed to obtain casual work as a call centre operator with ‘I Touch Australia’. atWork Australia (Glendalough) were able to successfully negotiate a permanent ongoing position for Jenny, with ‘I Touch.
She was naturally delighted and even more so when her Case Manager) introduced workplace modifications to assist her in the work environment. These included; the installation of a rail in the bathroom as well as a wider access door for the toilet, the addition of a ‘hands-free’ head-set and an ergonomic assessment to ensure that Jenny was working in a safe environment that would optimise her performance. Jenny has enjoyed tremendous support not only from the atWork staff but also from Michael Monaghan, her supervisor in ‘I Touch’. The workplace modifications were a result of ongoing post placement support from atWork Australia which also assisted Jenny to maintain employment and address any on-going issues.
