atWork Australia places 1000th job seeker!

Since atWork Australia began in 2003 (known then as part of WorkFocus Australia), it has grown considerably to now include eight locations and a reputation as one of Australia’s top providers of Australian Government Employment Services.

In July 2009, atWork Australia was chosen as a provider for the Australian Government’s Job Services Australia (JSA) program. JSA is designed to meet the employment and recruitment requirements of both job seekers and employers and provide new opportunities for Australians to receive one-on-one assistance and tailored employment services.

atWork Australia recently celebrated successfully placing its 1000th job seeker - Jessica Isaacs.

Jessica and atWork

Jessica was first referred to atWork Australia Mirrabooka, at the end of 2009 after completing her Year 11 studies. The Indigenous Education Worker at Jessica’s high school had been supporting her through her learning and noted an interest to undertake a traineeship.

atWork Australia’s one-stop-shop approach provided Jessica with a gateway to a range of specialist services accessed from one location. Through research and a network of contacts, atWork Australia’s workplace consultant was able to identify a potential job opportunity with AFL SportsReady and secured an interview for Jessica.

AFL SportsReady were very pleased with Jessica, however were unable to offer her a position at that time.

atWork Australia continued to work with Jessica and sourced an opportunity to undertake a Certificate II in Business Administration through the David Wirrpanda Foundation.

Jessica welcomed this opportunity with open arms and not only successfully completed the course, but was the only job seeker with 100% attendance rate.

Whilst attending the course Jessica was approached by AFL SportsReady, who had remembered her from her initial interview. She was presented with the chance to complete the Certificate III Business Administration Traineeship.

Through the Federal Government’s Employment Pathway Fund, atWork Australia was also able to assist with fares and clothing for Jessica to be able to commence her traineeship.

Jessica commenced the traineeship on 24 May 2010 with very positive feedback from her employer.

atWork Australia has kept in contact with Jessica and will provide post-placement support .

By maintaining easily accessible services on-site, atWork Australia was able to provide a range of services and support to Jessica, ensuring the right person was linked with the
right job quickly.
