atWork Australia connects with homeless at Expo in Perth

27/11/2008

atWork Australia joined more than 25 organisations at the inaugural “Homeless Connect” event held on 26 November at City Place Community Centre, near Perth Train Station.

Hosted by the City of Perth and attended by Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, Homeless Connect was held to facilitate collaborative working relationships between employment service providers, local, state and federal government organisations, businesses and community groups to provide free services to homeless people for a day.

Alexis Buckley-Carr, Manager of atWork Australia’s Joondalup Outreach office said “the event was a massive success – as a result, we have already had jobseekers attend atWork Australia to sign up for employment services. We’re keen to see this become an annual event too so that those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Perth can benefit even more from the services that atWork and other community support groups offer”.

Other providers included Foundation Housing, Homes West, St Barts, Genesis, Centrelink, Medicare, Inner City Mental Health, G''s, Optometrists and Dentists. atWork Australia has collaborative working relationships with many of these community support agencies.
